大きいリンゴガイを捕ったタニシトビ, A Snail kite that have caught prey of big apple snail
Guazu Metropolitano Parkのほぼ中央に、自然状態のプリンシパル湖（Laguna Principal）と湿地帯が広がる。湖の周囲には林があり、よくタニシトビを見かける。タニシトビは木の枝から時々空中に飛び上がり空中滑空する。飛んでいる姿を見ると英語名の「Kite = 凧」は言い得て妙だ。
Walking the Lake promenade (Paseo Laguna TOTAL: 2930mts) I reached Principals Lake. I saw a natural lake and the damp area of natural environment. There is a forest around the lake and I see often the Snail kite here. The snail kite sometimes flies up from the tree and glides in the air. The English name “Kite” of this bird is said cleverly on seeing its flying figure.

木の枝に止っていたトビは突然湖面に向かって飛び、何かをつかんで別の木の枝に戻った。獲物を捕ったようだ。写真を見ると、獲物は大きいスクミリンゴガイのようだ。日本では一般に「ジャンボタニシ」と呼ばれ、成体は殻高50?80mmに達するという。
The Snail kite on the tree branch suddenly flew towards the lake surface, grabbed something and returned to another tree branch. It seems to have caught prey. Looking at the pictures, the prey is like a big apple snail. In Japan it is commonly called “Jumbo snail and the adults reach a shell height of 50 to 80 mm.

トビはリンゴガイの中身を取り出した。貝はピンク色の卵塊をもっていた。この卵の内部は神経毒で満たされているので、トビはその部分をちぎって捨てた。
The Snail kite pulled out the content of the snail. The snail had a pink egg mass. Because the inside of this egg is filled with neurotoxin, the kite cut off that part and threw it away.

トビは料理の終わったリンゴガイをくわえて少し離れた木に移動した。タニシトビがこの公園に棲み続けられる理由が分かった。
The Snail kite moved to a tree that was a little away with the cooked apple snail. I saw why the Snail kite could keep living in this park.
