分布 コロンビアからベネズエラ、アルゼンチンまで分布する。生態: 湿地や沼地、河口、干潟に生息する。しばしば、高地の乾燥した草原でも見られる。主に昆虫類を捕食する。
草原に中型の鳥が2羽いるのを見た。持っていたカメラで写真を撮った。頭部が黒く目の周りは水色、くちばしの大部分は紅色で先が黒い、こんな絶妙な顔の配色と長い冠羽をなんとか見て取れる。日本にはいないフエフキサギだ。 I saw two medium-size birds in the glass field. I took photos by my carrying camera. The head top is black, regions around the eyes is light blue, the most part of the bill is pink and its head is black, the color scheme of this exquisite face and the long plumes can be seen. 通勤途中、CITEC横の草原に大形の鳥がいるのが見えた。アオサギの仲間かなと思ったが、比較するとかなり違う。がくちばしの先が黒く中ほどから赤い。目もパッチリして特徴がある。フエフキサギのようだ。(パラグアイ国ルケ市 2014/05/20-08:23, SX280)
