ニュワス公園のヨタカ（Nacunda Nighthawk at Ñu Guazu park）

• 2014年10月25日、いつものニュワス公園を散歩した。広い草原にはナンベイタゲリが沢山住んでいる。 ナンベイタゲリは近寄ると激しく鳴きながら空を飛び回る。その時、翼の白い模様が目立つ。 今回、草むらから音もなく2羽の鳥が飛立った。翼の白い模様が目立つのでナンベイタゲリかと思った。 しかし鳴かない。もしかしてヨタカかな。静かに着地点に近寄ってみた。 保護色で見つけにくいがいた、やはりヨタカだ。念願の写真が撮れた。
• October 25, 2014, I took a walk in usual Nyuwazu Park, where a lot of Southern Lapwing lives in the wide grass field. The Lapwings fly around squealing violently when I walk close to them. At that time, the white pattern of the wings stands out. This time, two birds took off without a sound from the grass field. I thought them Southern Lapwing because white pattern of the wings was so conspicuous. But the birds did not squeal. I wondered if those birds might be nightjar. I approached quietly the landing point of them. It was difficult to find in the protective coloration, but there were birds, indeed they were nightjar. I was able to take photos of desire.

草むらから2羽の中型の鳥が飛んで遠くに着地した。静かに近寄ってみると1羽は日光の下にうずくまっていた。絶好の撮影条件だ。
Two medium-sized birds took off from the grass field and landed in the distance. One bird was crouching under the sun when I approached quietly. It was a great shooting condition.

草むらから2羽の中型の鳥が飛んで遠くに着地した。静かに近寄ってみると1羽は木陰の草むらにうずくまっていた。保護色でとても見つけにくい。
Two medium-sized birds took off from the grass field and landed in the distance. One bird was crouching in the grass in the shade of a tree when I approached quietly. It was a great shooting condition. It was very hard to find it by protective coloration.

もう一羽は大木の裏側だったが日光の当たる場所にうずくまっていた。この姿勢は警戒している姿だ。かなり遠いが写真撮影にはよい条件だ。
Another bird was behind the big tree, but it was crouching in place in the sun light. This pose indicates that it is conscious of me.

もう少し近寄ったら、さらに飛び去って別の場所に着地した。木陰でとても見つけにくい場所だ。 トリミングにより大きく写っているように見えるがかなり遠い場所なのです。
When I approached a little more they flew away and landed in another location away further. It is a place where it is very hard to find in the shade of a tree. It appears to be a large photo by trimming, but is is a place quite far.

このヨタカの飛んでいる姿は優雅だ。長い翼に白いストライプが大変目立つ。 コンパクトカメラの物理的限界で飛んでいる姿を鮮明に撮ることは出来ないのが残念。
Flying figure of this nightjar is elegant. White stripes on very long wings stand out. It is too bad that I can not take clear picture of the flying figure by physical limitations of the compact camera.

なくんだヨタカ（Nacunda Nighthawk）

• 目が大きくくちばしの小さいヨタカ、昼は草むらでほとんど動かず休んでいる。長い翼で音もなく空を飛ぶ姿は優雅だ。 日本の詩人Mに悪口を言われて気の毒、泣くんだヨタカ。このヨタカの英語名はナクンダ（Nacunda）、 これは現地のグアラニ語名ニャクンダ（nacunda、大口の意味）に由来する。
• With big eyes and small beak, the nightjar is resting still in the grass at noon. Its appearance in the sky without any sound with the long wings is elegant. I am sorry the nightjar being spoken ill by the Japanese poet M, do cry nightjar. English name for this nightjar is Nacunda, which is derived from the Guarani Indian word nacunda, for a "big-mouth."

2014年11月29日、ニュワス公園を散歩した。広い草むらを散策して「今日はいないのかな...」と、 草むらから遊歩道に出ようとしたら近くからヨタカが3羽飛立った、不意をつかれた。 飛立つ前に見つけたいがカモフラージュの名人なのでそれはほとんど不可能だ。 草原は広いのでヨタカは飛立ってまたどこかに着地する。そこを目当てに近づいたら、見つけることが出来た。
November 29, 2014, I took a walk the Nyuwazu park. I walked through the wide grassland and was going to get away from here to the promenade, “I wonder if the nightjar is not here today…”, then, suddenly three nightjars flew away nearby, I was caught off guard. I want to find the nightjar before it flies away, but it is almost impossible because it is the master of camouflage. Since the grassland is wide the nightjar lands on some other place after flies away. I could find the nightjar remembering the target place where it landed.

ヨタカの顔の表情が分かる程度に近づけた。夜間活動するので目が大きい。嘴は小さいが大きな口を開けて飛ぶ昆虫を捕る。 この公園の草むらで5,6羽のヨタカを見かけたことがある。それだけ蛾など、餌になる昆虫も多いのだろう。 ここは豊かな自然の残る公園だ。
I could see the facial feature of the nightjar from this distance. The nightjar is active at night, so it has big eyes. It catches flying insect by opening big mouth, though its beak is small. I have seen 5, 6 nightjars in this park. I suppose there are many insects like moss which are food of nightjar. This place is a park with full of nature.

• 2015年4月11日、ニュワス公園を散歩した。目が大きくくちばしの小さいヨタカ、昼は草むらでほとんど動かず休んでいる。 長い翼で音もなく空を飛ぶ姿は優雅だ。長い翼に白いストライプが大変目立つ。 公園の草原を歩いていると近くからヨタカが飛立った。この日はこんな場面に3, 4回会った。 合計15羽以上のヨタカを見た、驚いた。飛立ったヨタカは遠くにまた着地する。 2,３羽のヨタカが飛立つと舞い戻ってきて私の上空を旋回した。私が危険動物なのかどうかの確認飛行ではないだろうか。 すばらしい飛び姿を披露してくれてありがとう。
• April 11, 2015, I took a walk Nu Guazu Park. With big eyes and small beak, the nightjar is resting still in the grass at noon. Its appearance in the sky without any sound with the long wings is elegant. White stripes on very long wings stand out. When I was walking the grassland of the park nightjars took off from nearby. I met like this occasion 3 or 4 times in this day. I saw more than total of 15 nightjars, I was surprised. Flew-upped nightjar eventually lands on a farther place. A few nightjars did turning flight up above me after taking off. It may be a confirmation flight whether I am a dangerous animal. Thanks for showing the great flying figure.

これは遠くに着地しようとしているヨタカです。着地した後、ヨタカは頭を上げてこちらを見て警戒しています。
This is the nightjar which is going to make a landing in the distance. After having made a landing, the nightjar raises a head and is cautious with looking at this direction.

This is the flying figure of the nightjar seeing from a viewpoint to look down at it. White stripe is outstanding on a long wing very much. The feather seems to be soft. Therefore the nightjar may fly in the sky without a sound.

シロハラヨタカは群を作るようで、2,3羽のヨタカが一斉に飛立ちます。何が原因か分かりませんが、公園にいるほとんど全てのヨタカが飛立つのを見ました。1枚の写真に10羽写っていましたが、それ以上飛んでいたので、20羽位この公園に居たのではないだろうか。
The Nacunda nighthawks seem to form a group, and two or three nightjars fly away all at once. I did not know what it was caused by, but I watched almost all nightjars in the park flew away. Ten of them appeared in one piece of photo, but there were about 20 in the Park because there were flying more.
