ヒメコンドル (Cathartes aura)

生態:砂漠、草原、森林など様々な環境に生息する。主に動物の死体を食べる。嗅覚が発達しており、においをたよりに死体を探す。 一説には16キロメートル先の匂いまで把握することができるという。
2015/1/21 コスタ･リカ国カーニョ・ネグロ野生保護区のボートツアー （Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge, Costa Rica, Jan. 21, 2015）
- Fortunaから北へ約2時間、ニカラグア国境に近いLos Chilesでボートに乗り換え野生保護区を見学しました。
- About 2 hours north of Fortuna, we watched the place after transferring on the boat at Los Chiles chose to the Nicaragua border.
木の浮島のような場所にヒメコンドルがいました。何かを食べているようです（ボートツアー出発から53分後）。
There was a Turkey Vulture in a place like floating island of trees. It seems to be eating something (53 min after departure).

餌はもうなくなっています。ヒメコンドルが翼を広げました。でもこのしぐさは何を意味するのか知りません。
野生のヒメコンドルをこんなに近くから見たのは初めてです。
Suddenly, another big Turkey Vulture flew down and drove away the former one. Bait was already gone.
The bird has spread wings. But I do not know what the meaning of this gesture.
This is the first time I saw the wild Turkey Vulture so near.

突然、別の大きいヒメコンドルが舞い降りて来て先にいたヒメコンドルをおいはらいました。餌はもうなくなっています。ヒメコンドルが翼を広げました。でもこのしぐさは何を意味するのか知りません。野生のヒメコンドルをこんなに近くから見たのは初めてです。

パラグアイ国ニュワス公園のヒメコンドル （Turkey vulture in Nu guazu Park, Paraguay）
- 2015年5月に入って、ニュワス公園で上空を飛んでいるヒメコンドルを見かけるようになった。これまでカラカラやクロコンドルをよく見かけたが、ヒメコンドルは初めてだ。そんなに猛禽類の餌があるのかな？不思議。
- May, 2015 began; I came to see flying of Turkey vulture up above the sky of Nu guazu Park. I have often seen Caracara and Black vulture in this park, but seen Turkey vulture in here for the first time. I wonder is there much food for Raptors?
2015年5月16日、ニュウワス公園を散歩していると、上空にヒメコンドルが現れた。ちょうど私のいる方向に飛んできた。
A Turkey vulture appeared in the sky when I strolled in Nu guazu Park on May 16, 2015. The bird came to the direction just where I was.

大きい翼を広げ上空を滑空しながらだんだん近づいてきた。
Opening big wings, the bird was gliding in the sky and gradually approached.

コンドルのピンク色の頭部が見える。写真を見ると、鋭い嗅覚を持つ顔つきが分かる。
Pink head of the bird can be seen. Looking at the photo it is possible to see some detail of the head with an acute sense of smell.

明るく写った写真で見ると、大きい風切り羽の内側が白いことがよく分かる。
It is well shown that the rear of the big flight feathers is white by taking a look at the brighter photo.

この公園で、これまでカラカラやクロコンドルをよく見かけたが、ヒメコンドルは初めてだ。そんなに猛禽類の餌があるのかな、不思議。

パラグアイ国アレグアのヒメコンドル（Turkey vulture in Areguá in Paraguay）
2014年8月24日、アスンシオンから約2時間バスに乗りアレグアに行った。ここには大きな湖がある。
アレグア湖畔（Playa de Aregua）公園は風光明媚な場所だが湖の水は水質汚染が進んで濁っている。時々上空を大形の鳥が飛んでいる。
肉眼では分からなかったが拡大写真を見ると、その鳥は頭部がピンク色をしたコンドルだ。
上空に来た時の写真から、翼裏面の後方羽毛が白いことも分かった。この鳥はヒメコンドルだ。
It was impossible to see by naked eyes, but enlarged photo showed that the bird was a condor with pink head.
From a photo when it came overhead it was also found that the rear wing feathers backside is white.
This bird is the turkey vulture.

肉眼では分からなかったが拡大写真を見ると、その鳥は頭部がピンク色をしたコンドルだ。上空に来た時の写真から、
翼裏面の後方羽毛が白いことも分かった。この鳥はヒメコンドルだ。
湖畔を巡回するように飛び見えなくなったが約20分後また現れた。前より遠いので分かりにくいが左6番風切羽の特徴から同じ個体と思われる。
おそらくここで魚を食べて生活しているのだろう。

This bird is the turkey vulture. It became invisible after a patrol-like flight, but it appeared again about 20 minutes later.
It seems the same one as before from the characteristic of the left wing. The bird may be living hear eating fish, I wonder.

2014年8月16日、アスンシオン市のボタニコ庭園に行った。ここの動物園でヒメコンドルとコロコンドルが同じオリの中に飼われていた。
ヒメコンドルはクロコンドルより大きく、その頭部はピンク色をしている。その鼻腔は鋭い嗅覚に適する構造を持つ。
August 16, 2014, I went to Botanico Garden in Asuncion. The turkey vulture and the black vulture had been kept
in the same cage at the zoo here. Turkey vulture is larger than black vulture and has the head with pink color.
The nasal cavity has a structure suitable for the keen sense of smell.
