- Wikipedia: The Shiny Cowbird (Molothrus bonariensis) is a passerine bird in the New World family Icteridae. It breeds in most of South America apart from the most dense jungles, mountains and deserts (although spreading into these habitats as they are modified by humans), the coldest southernmost regions (e.g. Tierra del Fuego), and on Trinidad and Tobago. Like most other cowbirds, it is a brood parasite, laying its eggs in the nests of many other bird species, such as (in Brazil) the Rufous-collared Sparrow and the Masked Water Tyrant.
2014年11月8日、アスンシオン中心街からバスで30分くらいの所にあるニュワス公園(Parque Ñu Guazu)に行った。広い草原には色々な小鳥が住んでいる。草原上の電線にスズメよりやや大きい小鳥が止まっていた。羽毛の模様はキンノジコのメスに似ているが写真を拡大して見ると違いが多い。口の根元が黄色っぽいので幼鳥のようだ。
November 8, 2014, I went to Nyuwasu park (Parque Ñu Guazu) in the place of about 30 minutes by bus from Asuncion city center. Variety of birds lives in the wide grassland. A bird slightly larger than the sparrow had perched on the wire on the field. Pattern of feathers is similar to the female Saffron Finch, but there are many differences after seeing an enlarged photo. It seems the young bird because the base of the mouth is yellowish.

キンノジコ（Saffron Finch）のメスの写真と並べてみた。この小鳥は胸と腹部全体にまだら模様を持つ。キンノジコは胸にまだら模様を持つが腹部は白っぽい。
I tried to put photos of this bird and female Saffron Finch side by side. This bird has mottled pattern on all of abdomen and chest. Saffron Finch has whitish abdomen with a mottled pattern on the chest.

テリバネコウウチョウのメスの写真と並べてみた。体型は似ているがテリバネコウウチョウのメスは全体がこげ茶色でまだら模様はない。
I tried to put photos of this bird and female Shiny Cowbird side by side. Whole body type is similar, but the female Shiny Cowbird is totally dark brown and is not mottled.

Cowbirdのオスの写真を並べてみた。左の写真のCowbirdは、翼の先にまだこげ茶色が残っているので成鳥に近いオスの幼鳥だろう。右の写真のCowbirdはオスの成鳥だ。成長の過程で羽毛の色が大きく変わるとすれば今回見た小鳥はShiny CowbirdのJuvenileだ。
I have arranged the photos of the male Shiny Cowbirds. The cowbird of the left photo would be a young bird of male close to adults because there are still dark brown ahead of the wing. The cowbird of the right photo is adult male. If it is true that the color of the feather changes significantly in the course of growth, this time of bird is the Juvenile of the Shiny Cowbird.
