- 2015年8月6 ? 8日、アスンシオンから車で約5時間の場所にあるチャコ地方のLoma Plataに旅行した。主にメノナイト移住地を訪れた。1つの塩水湖も見た。まだ乾季には入っていないので水は豊富で野鳥の姿もまばらだった。塩水湖の浅瀬にチドリのような小鳥の大群が現れ餌を探しながら移動して行った。
- On August 6 ? 8, 2015, six of us traveled around Loma Plata of the Chaco district in Paraguay which located about five hours from Asuncion by car. We mainly visited Mennonite Colonies. We also visited one of the saline lakes. We saw a few birds around the lake because it was not yet the dry season and there was lot of water in the lake. A large flock of small bird like the plover appeared in the shallows of the saline lake and went moving looking for bait.

鳥の足は大変長い。くちばしは細長くまっすぐだ。セイタカシギ科の鳥だ。
The foot of the bird is very long. The bill is thin, long and straight. These birds are in the family of Recurvirostridae.

突然上空にヒメコンドルが現れた。
Suddenly one Turkey vulture appeared in the sky.

ヒメコンドルが現れたためか分からないが、セイタカシギの大群は一斉に飛び立った。
I did not understand it probably because a vulture appeared, but the large flock of birds flew over all at once.

飛んでいる姿を見ると、英語の名前が表しているように、翼は黒いが背中は白い。
The wing is black, but the back is white so that the English name expresses it when I looked at the flying figure.

塩水湖から帰る途中、別の塩水湖でもセイタカシギを見た。
I saw the same birds at another saline lake on the way back from the saline lake.
