ベニタイランチョウ (Pyrocephalus rubinus)

- Wikipedia: ベニタイランチョウ (Pyrocephalus rubinus) は、スズメ目の小形の鳥であり、ベニタイランチョウ属 (Pyrocephalus) 唯一の種である。
アメリカ南西部、中央アメリカ、南アメリカ北中部からアルゼンチン中部まで見られる。またガラパゴス諸島にも生息する。
全長は約15cmで[1]、雌雄異色。雄は鮮やかな赤色で、翼羽は暗褐色。雌は淡色の腹に、上面は濃灰色であり、チャイロツキヒメハエトリ (Sayornis saya) に少し似る。
タイランチョウ科の鳥は、主にハエやバッタ、甲虫などの昆虫を食べる。通常、止まり木から瞬発的に追いかけて飛翔し、空中で昆虫を捕らえる。

2014年8月2日、アスンシオン中心街からバスで30分くらいの所にあるニュワス公園(Parque Ñu Guazu)に行った。大きな公園で沢山の草木や2つの池があり、いろいろな鳥類が住んでいる。池の周辺は虫が多いためか水辺の杭に止って虫をねらっているベニタイランチョウを見かけた。
August 2, 2014, I went to Nyuwasu park (Parque Ñu Guazu) in the place of about 30 minutes by bus from Asuncion city center. It is a large park with many plants, two ponds and various birds are living. I saw a Vermillion flycatcher perching on a pole at the pond aiming at insects probably because there were many insects around there.

羽毛は背中を除いてほとんど真紅に染まっている。成熟したベニタイランチョウのオスだ。
Feathers are almost vermillion except for the back. It is a mature male Vermillion Flycatcher.

この杭はバーミリオン君のお気に入りらしい。人が近づくと彼は飛び去るがしばらくするとまた戻ってくる。バーミリオン君の虫を追う空中ハンティングは華麗だ。
This pile seems to be a favorite of Mr. Vermillion. He flies away when a person approaches, but comes back again after a while. Aerial hunting chasing insects of Mr. Vermillion is brilliant.

若いベニタイランチョウ (Young Vermillion Flycatcher)
2014年6月21日、アスンシオン中心街からやや遠い大きな公園に行った。電線に飛ぶ虫を追う小鳥がいる。写真に撮ってみると羽毛の赤くないベニタイランチョウだ。若いオスかメスか分からない。
June 21, 2014, I went to a large park a little farther from downtown Asuncion. A small bird is perching on electric wire and chasing flying insect. It is Vermillion Flycatcher with no red feather after the photo confirmation. I do not know whether it is a young male or female.

別の場所で別の個体を見た。写真で見ると羽毛の一部が赤い。若いオスのようだ。
I saw another individual in another place. Part of the feather is red when I looked at it in photos. It seems the young male.

肉眼では分からなかったがアブを捕らえた直後の姿が写っていた。そうか、バーミリオンはツバメと違い飛ぶ虫をくちばしで摘んで捕るのか。器用な小鳥だ。キバラオオタイランチョウも近くにいる。同じ科の鳥だが大きさが随分違う。
I could not see by naked eyes but one figure caught his figure just after he caught the fly. Really, Vermillion Flycatcher catches flying insect by picking it by his bill different from the manner of swallow. He is really deft at catching insects. Great Kiskadee is also near by. It is a bird of the same family, but it is much bigger.
