ベニをささないベニタイランチョウのメス（Female Vermillion Flycatcher with no makeup）

• 2014年8月30日、アスンシオン市ニュワス公園(Parque Ñu Guazu)に行った。ここでは、空中で昆虫を捕らえるベニタイランチョウを毎回見ることができた。でもこれまでメスを見かけることがなかった。今回初めてメスをよく見ることができた。オスは濃い紅色をしていて大変目立つがメスは大変地味な色をしている。
  August 30, 2014, I went to Nyuwasu park (Parque Ñu Guazu) in the place of about 30 minutes by bus from Asuncion city center. Here, I was able to see every time the Vermillion Flycatcher that sallied out toward a flying insect. But I have never seen female Vermillion flycatcher before. This time I was able to see her closely. Mr. Vermillion is very conspicuous with his dark red feathers but Ms. Vermillion has very sober colors.

男前のバーミリオン君が木の枝に止り空中の虫を捕る飛行をしている。公園の別の場所で地味な小鳥が木の枝に止り同じ行動をしているのを見かけた。
Handsome Mr. Vermillion is catching insects in mid-air, after a short sally flight from a perch. At a different place in the park I saw a sober bird doing the same action.

2羽の小鳥を見比べてみると色は随分違うが姿の特徴は同じだ。あなた方はミスター・アンド・ミス・ヴァーミリオンなのでしょう？

ベニタイランチョウは飛ぶ虫を見つけると止まり木から瞬発的に飛び出し空中で虫を追いまた戻る。 その範囲は飛ぶ小さい虫を目で追うことの出来る5m程度だ。
Vermillion Flycatcher usually catches insects in mid-air, after a short sally flight from a perch. The flight range is about 5m where the bird can follow the small flying insect with its eyes.
